چکیده

Within the project “BIOSEA” funded by Italian Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, a preliminary laboratory test was conducted to assess variability for cold tolerance during germination in 30 cultivars biomass sorghum, among fiber sweet types. Seed (%) mean time (MGT) were examined at seven constant temperatures (from 8 °C 35 °C) base temperature (Tb) thermal (?T) 50% calculated. A wide genetic diversity response sorghum ascertained (CV 45%) 10 25.4%). At °C, ‘Padana 4’, ‘PR811F’, ‘PSE24213’, ‘PR849’ ‘Zerberus’, seed exceeded 80%. Seeds ‘Zerberus’ also fastest, requiring less than 13 days final this low temperature. Great differences found Tb ?T cultivars. varied between 7.44 (‘PR811F’) 13.48 (‘Nectar’). Thermal was, on average, 24.09 °Cd?1, ranged 16.62 (‘Nectar’) 33.42 °Cd?1 (‘PSE24213’). The best combination two parameters (i.e., ?T) corresponded ‘Sucrosorgo 506’, ‘Jumbo’ ‘PR811F’. Accordingly, these are more tolerant stress and, thus, adapt early spring sowings Mediterranean areas (March-April). Cultivars ‘PR811F’ (fiber type) 506’ (sweet combine high with good productivity terms dry biomass, as assessed open-field conditions (late sowing). variation is useful identification genotypes suitable semi-arid areas. Selection within existing may contribute expansion into cooler cultivation areas, such those Northern Europe, which warm season crop.

Genotypic variation in sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] exotic germplasm collections for drought and disease tolerance

Sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] grain yield is severely affected by abiotic and biotic stresses during post-flowering stages, which has been aggravated by climate change. New parental lines having genes for various biotic and abiotic stress tolerances have the potential to mitigate this negative effect. Field studies were conducted under irrigated and dryland conditions with 128 exotic ge...

The role of sucrose metabolizing proteins in hyperosmotic stress tolerance in sweet sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench)

Sugar accumulation is a common metabolic response under drought stress conditions. However, studies on the underlying molecular mechanisms of sugar accumulation under stress remain restricted. This study explores the role of sucrose metabolizing proteins in conferring tolerance to drought-induced hyperosmotic stress, and ultimately osmotic adjustment in sorghum. The effect of stress on sugar co...

Role of Copper on Physiological Parameters and Salt Tolerance in Sweet Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) Cultivars

This research was carried out to determine effect of sorghum cultivars and copper foliar spray on physiological traits under saline water situation via split plot experiment based on randomized complete blocks design with four replications during 2015 and 2016 year. The main plot consisted sorghum cultivars at three level (Kimia, KGS10, KGS4) and Copper foliar spray (C1: 0 or control...

Identification of STOP1-Like Proteins Associated With Aluminum Tolerance in Sweet Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.)

Aluminum (Al) toxicity in acidic soils affects crop production worldwide. C2H2-type zinc finger transcription factor STOP1/ART1-mediated expression of Al tolerance genes has been shown to be important for Al resistance in Arabidopsis, rice and other crop plants. Here, we identified and characterized four STOP1-like proteins (SbSTOP1a, SbSTOP1b, SbSTOP1c, and SbSTOP1d) in sweet sorghum, a varian...

B-Glucans in the Caryopsis of Sorghum Bicolor (L.) Moench

Fluorescence microscopy was used to determine the l ocation of Bglucans in sorghum. Sections from three genetically different sorghum cultivars were st ained with Calcofluor or Congo Red , fluorochromes which have been reported to react with 13-glucans. Autofluorescence, indicative of ferulic acid in other cereals, was observed in untreated sections. When stained sections were treated with endo...
